My City Lives: Product Update

Had we shown you our platform a couple of months ago, you probably politely told us that it needed work. You were right. Having surpassed our own technical abilities, however, we needed to find a company that understood our vision and how to get there. Thankfully, the search was relatively easy once we leveraged the many opportunities for makers and creators to meet in Toronto’s vibrant startup community.

Jet Cooper tells people that they make better websites.  Although that may leave a lot to the imagination, their (albeit short) track record would validate this. Like many other companies, Jet Cooper does design and does web development but unlike most others, their expertise is the “digital experience” and what makes people come back to websites.  At a time when website creation has become formulaic, Jet Cooper meticulously considers the next level of interaction and engagement. Finally and perhaps best of all, embedded in their culture is to always challenge our (the client’s) conceptions and put the user’s experience first. Jet Cooper are not ‘yes men’ and largely for this reason, they were the best men for the job.

Content

No matter how great the platform for My City Lives is – and it will be great – we will not succeed without content.  There is no exact formula on how to achieve this but certainly, there are many things we can and are doing to seed our library and provide inspiration for the thousands of Creators that we will need help from. The most important of these actions is considering what value there is in contributing and how we continually improve that. My City Lives is as much about our city as it is the people who inhabit it.

One of the ways we are approaching developing content is by building a team of Toronto Storytellers that will help us in showing the many applications and possibilities of My City Lives. This internship position has sparked an overwhelming response thus fur, providing a much appreciated shot of validating.
